A PHP/MySQL, data-driven website
This site was created in 2004 as an example of combining traditional HTML static content with product information drawn from a MySQL backend database. Content information related to products is stored in and updated by way of an online MySQL database.
Maintenance of a website created using classic ASP
Executive Assistance Inc. is a temporary and permanent staffing agency in Toronto. Their current site was created by another development company in 2002. The site was cutting edge at the time, featuring Flash graphics and database connectivity, but it was also image-heavy and difficult to maintain with a large amount of redundant code. Business Data Solutions took over site maintenance in 2006.
Modifications and enhancements since 2006 include:
- huge reduction in the number of images used, improving load speed
- replacement of many Javascript function calls with CSS settings to speed page response
- consolidation of most Javascript functionality into linked JS files to ease maintenance and reduce repetitive code
- upgrade of all HTML code to XHTML standards
- replacement of obsolete HTML tags with CSS
- page layout changes to suit wider screen resolution

Business Data Solutions is currently assisting with the creation of a new website for Executive Assistance Inc.
Addition of a searchable database "backend"
In 2006, the Hospice Association of Ontario came to us with a problem. Their Hospice Lifeline site -- used to disseminate information about hospice programs and services available throughout Ontario -- had been designed to use a searchable text file to store information. Searches were taking up to two minutes to run and were sometimes timing out completely. Maintenance of the site was difficult. Being a non-profit organization largely manned by volunteers, the Hospice Association needed help in making their website work until funding was available for a completely new site.
Business Data Solutions was able to modify the website to store existing information in a searchable database. Page response times became almost instantaneous. Maintenance of the data was eased by creation of a web interface for use by volunteers. No visible changes were required to the site itself. The Hospice Association was able to continue the operation of the old site seamlessly until a new site could be built.

Targeted, customizable HTML email sent using PHP
Worth Recruiting is a Toronto-based recruiting agency specializing in the financial industry. In 2007, Worth Recruiting came to us with a request. They needed a way for their recruiters to send new and prospective clients a personalized email containing some background information on the company, as well as links both to Worth's site and to resources available to Worth's clients.
Business Data Solutions created an HTML email that mirrored the style of Worth's website. Worth's recruiters are able to securely access a web-based form where they can add a personalized message to the email before sending it directly from Worth's website.
